Advocacy Stream

The 'Advocacy Stream' of the Conference will be targeted at parents, carers and supporters (eg: workers, advocates) of people with a disability.

In addition to the wide range of "Having A Say" program options, the Advocacy Stream offers people with a disability, family members and advocates the opportunity to get together, recharge batteries and be inspired!

The Keynote Speaker for 2008 is Simon Duffy who is the co-founder of 'In Control', a social enterprise that works to transform the system of 'social care' in England into a universal system of Self-Directed Support.  In Control has had a dramatic impact on public policy in the United Kingdom and has supported a real shift in power towards disabled people and their families.

Highlights of the Advocacy Stream also include information sessions such as 'Planning Pathways for your Family Member', 'Making Life Good in the Community' , 'What Makes a Home' and 'Create Access Accommodation'  and the Conference Dinner with a Guest Speaker, which will be announced at a later date.

The 'stream' will operate separately to the main Self-Advocacy Conference, but will join the main Conference for the Opening and Closing Sessions, as well as the Conference Dinner.
